The ZGMF-1017M2 GINN High Maneuver Type 2 is a Mobile Suit from the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny anime series.
It is developed from its predecessor the ZGMF-1017M GINN High Maneuver Type, the GINN High Maneuver Type 2 is designed for high mobility using more Vernier thrusters and an improved version of normal backpack thrusters for higher mobility during close combat.
It is also equipped with an improved sensor system in its head, and is armed with better close combat weaponry, in the form of a Katana-like MA-M92 sword, a shield, and a MMI-M636K beam carbine, which gave the GINN High Maneuver Type 2 higher close combat capabilities than its predecessor. Here is a comparision to the other Gundam Seed MS, Rouge Strike, Freedom Gundam, Infinite Justice Gundam and latest Dagger L.
Due to its been produced in small number, Ace pilots were prioritized when assigning the GINN High Maneuver Type 2, and many of its pilots continued using it after the first war as it was highly rated.
The High Grade ZGMF-1017M2 GINN High Maneuver Type 2 is a Bandai 1/144 scale kit released in mid-Jul 2005. It is relatively old kit and uses polycaps as joints, hence it does not have much articulation and after a few poses the elbow joints become too loose to hold a 90 degree bends.
The retail price for this kit is about ¥1,650 when it was release, but now it is in stock at GalacticToys for US$19.95, and that is where I bought mine from.
Yes, it is an old kit therefore there not much surface details and parts separation. However, if you are just following the box art, the kit is about 90% colour correct if you apply the stickers.
But my kit is my submission into SIDE6-Calling All Aces competition hence I have put in an extra effort to custom mine into a proper Ace machine.
I decided not to use the Katana-like sword because for me it is a bit out of place, unless I am trying to make a space samurai or ninja, but “NO” I am customising it into a Sniper Ace Star (SAS)!
To be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of the JINN and its other variants; mainly because I do not understand the extra head piece (some sort of sensor) that stick out like a sore thumb! Hence I trimmed mine off and it actually look in quite well without it.
If you are inspired by my projects, please consider supporting me by tipping me. A small amount from you means a large step for me. The tips will be used to help me to fund this blog and additional tools and paints to keep this site going. Thank you in advance and much appreciated!
Yes, there is lots of masking to make it stand out, but it wasn’t too difficult if you have patience. To be call a Sniper Ace Star, you need to have a long range beam rifle, this is part of Bandai’s weapon pack, a Gatling gun from Heavyarms and I throw if 2 fuel tanks to make it look important.
