The Bandai 1/144 HG RX-77-2 ‘Guncannon’ wasn’t one of my first loves when I started watching the original anime series when I was a kid. The Guncannon with its green visor and baseball cap looked like a goofy young boy especially when his “elder brother” RX-78 comes to his rescue most of the time.

This kit is not new; I believe it could one of those unofficial “Revive” versions of the original HG Guncannon. Saying that it is not nasty cheap plastic, it does lack details when compared to the Origin Series, but this is good enough for me.

It is easy to put together, easy to paint as well. Saying that, I wasn’t really inspired to customise this kit, I was struggling for ideas but I just couldn’t come up with any ways to make it more exciting than it already is.

I did give it a different paint job because I really dislike it all red. When it comes to plain simple kits I tend to do a heavy pre-shade and additional post-shade as well to help bring out the edges and outline of the kit.
I did make a noob error by not priming the surface and thought since I am already using red, I might as well just spray red over. The result is the paint did not adhere to the surface and it peel off very easily with masking tape! I have no choice but to wash the kit in soapy water and start all over again.

Other than that, there is nothing much else to say about this simple kit. He is a must to complete my Federation Victory Team. Please take a look at my RX-78 Gundam and RX-75 Guntank as well!

This is a side-by-side comparison to Stardust Memories GM Cannon 2. They are quite different in design and GM Cannon 2 is one of my favourite kits as well.
