The RGM-86RBM GM 3 Beam Master is a Mobile Suit that features in the Gundam Build Divers series. It is a modification based on the RGM-86R GM 3, it is built and piloted by Yukio Hidaka (Yukki).

Yukki’s machine is a long range support type Mobile Suit; as its name suggests, it is customised with additional beam weapons, such as the Changeling Rifle that is capable of a variety of attacks by swapping barrels.

This Gunpla has been customized for combat and support where it maintains its distance from enemies and fires accurately against them; which will then allow his friend and buddy Riku to rush through the enemy front lines with the Gundam 00 Diver.

The RGM-86R GM 3 is basically a mass-production general-purpose mobile suit first featured in the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ. It is developed from RX-178 Gundam Mk 2. For example its backpack is a mass production model of the Gundam MK 2‘s, and the GM 3’s mobility and manoeuvrability have exceeded the level of existing mass production machines.

The High Grade RGM-86RBM GM 3 Beam Master is a Bandai 1/144 scale kit released in mid-April 2018. Although it is released in 2018, the kit is based on the HG RGM-86R GM 3 kit which is released 7 years ago in August 2011. The Beam Master kit however uses some newer parts such as the knees, side skirts and a new head unit. It is basically a kit-bash of the HG GM 3 to make it a Yukki’s custom.

The retail price for this kit is about ¥1,980 which is although more expensive than the HG RGM-86R GM 3 at ¥1,650; but you are getting a lot more plastic for your “buck” with the Beam Master. Saying that the HG GM 3 kit is a not bad kit for HG scale also there is no other “revive” version of the HG GM 3, hence buying a Beam Master is like getting a “Kai” version of the GM 3.

With that in mind, this is exactly what inspired me to customise this kit back into a “Kai” GM 3 by giving it a long more firepower and quadruple shield which is heavily inspired by Thunderbolt series.

I do like the Build Divers series kit, especially where some of the kits are basically a kit-bash/costumed design. The Beam Master is basically a GM3 “Kai” with a new RGM head unit, which I have bought 2 kits and customised one to look like a Heavy-Gun from the F91 series, and the other into a kitted out GM 3 with quadruple shields inspired from the Thunderbolt series.

I have also repaired the Beam Master back to GM pale green and red livery to pay homage to the original colour of the Federation Forces Cannon-Fodder.
